When we say the world is too dependent on oil, we are not exaggerating. One good starting point to prove this would be transportation. We know that cars, ships , locomotives and airplanes are all driven by oil. If the oil supply is cut off someday, the whole transportation system will be paralyzed.
Since the transportation system is the lifeline of a country’s economic activities, its paralysis would lead to the collapse of the economy, either industry or farming or daylife.
Furthermore, it is risky to base our world solely on oil. This is because oil reserves are diminishing. Besides , the supply is sometimes affected by political interests. For example, a few years age, when OPEC countries refused to export their oil, many other countries were thrown into chaos. The table shows the sales figures of fiction books, non-fiction books, and magazines in a college bookshop for February 1998. The figures are divided into two groups: sales to non-Book Club members and to Book Club members.
